Slow vs. Rapid Charging

The distinction between slow and rapid (or fast/ultra-rapid) charging is mainly based on the charging power and the time needed to recover range.

Slow charging is generally done using Alternating Current (AC) charging points, offering moderate power that allows the vehicle to be recharged over several hours, often overnight or during prolonged periods. It’s ideal for home charging of light vehicles or in locations where charging time isn’t a constraint. Conversely, rapid charging, which uses Direct Current (DC) charging points, allows for significant range to be recovered in under an hour.

This type of charging is particularly suitable for heavy-duty vehicles, long-distance journeys, and urgent charging needs.
