The charging satellite is the final element of a distributed architecture charging infrastructure, the one that enables the physical connection between an Electric Vehicle and the charging system.
It takes the form of a box or pedestal located in the car park or depot, connected to a central Power Unit (PU). Unlike classic charging points that integrate power conversion and vehicle connection in the same equipment, the satellite simply transmits energy to the vehicle. This decentralised Power Unit / satellite architecture helps to optimise costs, facilitate installation, and share the available power among several charging points. In a professional environment, it is commonly used for fleets (heavy goods vehicles, buses, vans), with units distributed on-site according to operational needs.
The satellite may include a user interface, an RFID / card reader, and an MID certified meter, for example.
