PU: Power Unit

A Power Unit (PU) is a high-performance converter or power cabinet used to manage, transform, and distribute electrical energy in North American systems. 

In EV charging applications, it converts electricity from the grid : typically 120, 208, 240, or 480 V AC at 60 Hz, into the correct form for Electric Vehicles or charging stations, supporting AC and DC outputs. The PU regulates voltage and current, protects equipment from overloads or faults, and optimizes energy efficiency.

Modern units include inverters, DC-DC converters, and integrated safety systems to enable fast and ultra-fast charging, bidirectional energy flows (V2G), and compliance with UL and CSA standards. PUs are crucial in EV charging infrastructure, commercial and heavy-duty fleets, and industrial installations, ensuring reliable, safe, and high-performance operation.
